A Piggyback Web site

The dioceses of Wiawso and Sunyani in Ghana, in the Anglican Province of West Africa asked us if we could put together a Web site for them because they did not have the services of a Webmaster/Web designer. Furthermore, since they did not have funds to pay the monthly fee for an Internet server it presented an interesting challenge for us.

After some head-scratching and experimentation we found we could give them a site on our church Web site at no cost to them. In other words a "no-cost piggy back site". Furthermore they could access their pages and upload material and edit it. The cost to us was a small additional charge for extra disc space from our server.

You can navigate to the Ghana site from our home page at www.stpaulsventura.org or you may go directly here: http://www.stpaulsventura.org/ghana

SAFE SLEEP VENTURA

St. Paul's Vestry approved parish participation in a city council sponsored program to provide legal overnight parking for vehicle dwellers. The Salvation Army screens and provides case management for this program that allows up to five vehicles to park in church lots for 90 days. Currently St. Paul's and the Unitarian Universalists are the only churches whose boards authorized the program, though many other clergy would like to participate. St. Paul's must provide monitors/visitors, restrooms or a port-a-potty. Clients are required to have current registration and vehicle insurance, no drugs or alcohol, no cooking. During the month old program St. Paul's has had only one client on account of the insurance requirement - a high bar for most applicants. The congregation has greeted the program very positively.

GHANA VISIT

Several St. Paul's members will travel to Ghana in late July 2010 to visit the Dioceses of Sunyani and Wiawso in the rain forest. Two years ago St. Paul's raised funds to build a clean water project for the village of Andoanda. The Rev. Canon Doug Edwards, assisting at St. Paul's, has organized and built several village clean water projects. He is the sponsor of this mission trip.
